Egghead Discount Software: The Issaquah, Wash., computer software retail chain said it lost $12.1 million during fiscal 1989, contrasted with a profit of $4.6 million the previous year. However, sales jumped 70% to $342.4 million. The company said the principal factors behind the losses were fourth-quarter writedowns totaling $11.8 million, a change in an accounting method that increased expenses by $4.5 million and additional reserves for future writedowns of $4.1 million.
