Molson-Carling Merger Advances: Two Canadian government agencies said they will not challenge the merger of brewing giants Molson Cos. and Carling O’Keefe Breweries of Canada Ltd. The Bureau of Competition Policy and Investment Canada, the agency that monitors and promotes foreign investment in Canada, gave their blessing to the merger. Carling O’Keefe is owned by Elders IXL Ltd., an Australian conglomerate. The new company, to be called Molson Breweries, will be worth $1.26 billion. The merger will create Canada’s largest brewing company.
