Michigan Firm to Buy Bank in San Jose
The expected wave of acquisitions by out-of-state banks might have started Wednesday, when San Jose-based Plaza Commerce Bancorp agreed to be bought by a Michigan bank in 1991.
The agreement, in which Comerica of Detroit will pay $117 million for Plaza Commerce, marked the first time a California bank has entered into such an agreement in anticipation of the new interstate banking laws.
