Airline Orders Break Record: U.S. airlines have outstanding orders for a record 2,181 jet aircraft worth $90 billion, the Air Transport Assn. said. The airline trade group said 1989 was the first year that U.S. airlines have had more than 2,000 planes on order as airlines modernize fleets to accommodate heavy traffic and improve airline standards.
