WORLD IN BRIEF : ETHIOPIA : Polish Freighter Attacked, 30 Seized

Eritrean rebels attacked and crippled a Polish freighter in the Red Sea off Ethiopia and captured 29 crew members and a passenger, the Polish government reported. The 11,600-ton Boleslaw Krzywousty, carrying ceramics and cotton, was found Thursday aground, ablaze and unmanned by another Polish vessel that answered a distress signal.
