Now Everyone Knows He’s Unknown

I find myself in the oxymoronic position of being a famous unknown. Finding my picture on the front page of View provided an eye-opener that my usual coffee could only dream about (“Hung Up on Getting Noticed,” May 22).

Now, not only do my friends and family know that I’m unknown, but the industry that I have worked in for the past decade and all 1.2 million subscribers to The Times know I’m unknown.

For the record, my picture hangs at Palermo Restaurant at the request of Tony (the proprietor). He makes the best pizza west of New York, and I didn’t dare refuse for fear of reprisal. Additionally, this particular unknown has also graced the front page of Calendar (June, 1987) and a quarter-page ad for a bank in the business section.

I don’t want to calculate the odds of my picture appearing in View as a result of it being photographed at the only retail establishment in which it appears, but on behalf of myself, PeeWee Herman and the dog with no name, thanks for the publicity.
