American Airlines Plans Surcharges: The Dallas-based carrier plans to add ticket surcharges of $1 to $4 on departures from five airports in the New York area and the Southeast. American said the surcharges, which take effect Sept. 15, stem from “excessive” charges imposed on the airline by the airports. The charges apply to La Guardia Airport in New York, Newark International Airport in New Jersey and airports in West Palm Beach, Fla., Fort Myers, Fla., and New Orleans.
