A CUT ABOVE
In your May 20 review of Roger Corman’s “How I Made a Hundred Movies in Hollywood and Never Lost a Dime,” you refer to Joe Dante and Allan Arkush as former trailer cutters. Please be informed that this archaic term is an insult to film editors.
It is the art of film editing that makes film itself an art, though this is usually only recognized by those who’ve experimented on their own works or seen a sequence evolve through the Moviola from dailies to its final form.
The work of Dante, Arkush and Amy Jones on “Hollywood Boulevard” is another testimony to artistic skills that apply to sound effects, dialogue and music editors as well as picture editors.
