MINNEAPOLIS — A 47-year-old heart transplant patient died after he received a heart with the wrong blood type, officials said today.
The man, who was not identified, had type O blood and received a heart from a person with type A blood, said Dr. Robert Emery, director of heart transplantation for Abbott Northwestern and the Minneapolis Heart Institute.
The man’s blood type was listed incorrectly on a transplant matching computer, he said.
