Law Firm Sues to Block Use of Name: The San Francisco law firm Lillick & Charles said it had filed suit in San Francisco Superior Court to prevent Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro and Lillick & McHose, which have agreed to merge, from using the names Lillick and McHose . The merger of Pillsbury and Lillick & McHose is expected to be completed Jan. 1 and would create the state’s second-largest law firm. The merged firm intends to call itself Pillsbury Madison Sutro Lillick & McHose in Southern California and Washington--though not in San Francisco--but Lillick & Charles contends in its lawsuit that any use of the Lillick & McHose names is “a clear violation of the agreement governing the 1989 separation of the two Lillick firms.”
