JAPAN: Japan is increasingly flirting with an economic slowdown, and Japanese companies are feeling it. The Bank of Japan’s latest Tankan index, a quarterly survey of prospects for economic growth, shows the confidence level of Japanese companies continuing to decline. The Tankan index, a measure of business confidence, dropped for the sixth time in a row. In addition, capital spending, which accounted for roughly a quarter of Japan’s growth last year, is projected to slow dramatically, the Bank of Japan said.
