COUNTYWIDE : Attorneys Prepare for Law Day Events
The Ventura County Bar Assn. is gearing up for Law Day on May 1, which will be followed by a month of activities aimed at increasing public awareness of the justice system.
Bar associations throughout the country for years have participated in Law Day programs. This year’s theme is “Freedom Has a Name: The Bill of Rights.”
Activities will include a “tag-along program” May 2 and 3 in which high school seniors will work for a day alongside judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys and other court personnel. Lawyers will also speak at schools in the county during May.
Liberty Bell Awards will be given to three people other than attorneys who work in the legal community. The bar association’s small-claims committee will present a forum to help the public better understand the small-claims process. Attorneys will offer free legal services from a booth at one of the county malls.
On May 5, the association will sponsor a 5-kilometer run and a 15-kilometer relay race at the County Government Center in Ventura.
