Lyric Censorship
Regarding Chuck Philips’ “A War That Isn’t Over” (April 21), on the efforts to pass legislation censoring popular music:
Texas state Rep. Al Edwards gives away the agenda for his New World Order: “After we get rid of the dirty lyrics,” he says, “we intend to go after the filthy TV shows and movies.”
But of course we won’t stop there. Next in line for review will be those awful publications that print garbage by people who think and speak for themselves.
And then comes the attack on naughty books such as “Huckleberry Finn” and anything that mentions evolution or, for that matter, any idea that isn’t referenced in the Christian Bible.
And next, well hey, what about all those degenerates who didn’t drive around with flags tied to their cars? Might they need a lesson or two in patriotism?
Think, people. Have we not seen this sort of witch hunting before? Speak out now, before the only thing you can buy in a record store is a recording of goose-stepping boots.
