Yucaipa Cos. Sells Grocery Chain Stake: The Claremont-based owner of the Boys and Viva supermarket chains agreed to sell a majority interest in Almac’s Supermarkets Inc., a leading New England grocery retailer, to Los Angeles-based Leonard Green & Partners, a management buyout specialist. Leonard Green last year bought Alaska’s largest food and drug retailer and wholesaler. Yucaipa, which will retain a minority interest, will sell an equivalent stake in Almac’s to Wetterau Inc., a food wholesaler that is Almac’s largest supplier. The companies valued the deal at more than $100 million.
