DISINTERESTED: Low interest rates on bank savings accounts these days (D3) have sent some Leisure World residents looking for jobs. . . . Gemma Heffernan, manager of Leisure World’s social services, says people who had expected their certificates of deposit to earn $150 a month now receive only about $82. “It can mean the difference between eating out one night for the week or not,” Heffernan says. One 76-year-old resident spent last week filling applications at the mall. “She was very conscious about having to dress younger to get a job,” Heffernan says.
