Pentagon Denies Bailout: Pentagon spokesman Pete Williams said there was no bailout of McDonnell Douglas Corp., but he said the Defense Department’s inspector general is continuing to investigate whether certain payments made to the firm were legitimate. Even if the Air Force took actions to assist the firm during a financial crisis in 1990, such as changing the timing of payments or performance requirements on contracts, it would not amount to a bailout, Williams said.
