Houston-based Baker Hughes Inc. reported that the number of working oil and gas rigs in the United States this week rose by two to total 690. A year ago, the count was 831 . . . The Investment Company Institute reported that the assets of the nation’s 589 money market mutual funds rose by $4.16 billion to $510.29 billion in the week ended July 29. Sales of stock and bond and income mutual funds totaled $29 billion in June, according to the institute. This compares to total sales of $27 billion in May and $17 billion in June, 1991.
