John Thomas Shutters Earns Regional Honor
John Thomas Shutters, a Newbury Park business that started in the founder’s garage and now has 43 employees, has been named a 1992 Business of the Year by the Southern California Assn. of Chamber of Commerce Executives.
The company’s founder, John Thomas, worked part time at a shutter-making concern while attending law school. After becoming a lawyer, he decided to give up his profession and start his own shutter company.
His wife, Dee, left her own career as a dental hygienist to help run the firm, which makes custom shutters for homes and businesses.
“It’s one of the most stable, well-run companies in our area,” said Stephen J. Rubenstein, president of the Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce, who nominated the firm for the honor.
