Group Buys Stake in Construction Firm: A group led by Montana investor Dennis Washington has purchased 656,200 shares, or 6.5%, of Highland, Calif.-based Kasler Corp., a road and bridge builder. Washington’s office declined comment. He is being advised by David Batchelder, a Southland-based corporate raider formerly associated with T. Boone Pickens. According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Washington intends to seek board representation and explore a possible merger or business combination with Kasler. But the group said it has no plans for a tender offer at this point. Kasler officials couldn’t be reached. The firm’s stock rose 37.5 cents to $10.625 on the New York Stock Exchange on Friday.
