2 Teens Hurt in Westminster Drive-By Shooting
WESTMINSTER — Two teen-age boys were shot Thursday afternoon while standing with two friends in front of a house in what neighbors said is a “normally quiet” cul-de-sac.
Witnesses told police that a group of youths drove by the Abington Circle house in a white car and fired at least five bullets into the group before speeding away.
No arrests have been made.
The victims, whose names were not released, were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange. They are both under 18 years old, Westminster Police Officer Robin Kapp said.
“A passenger in the car fired several shots,” Kapp said. “One of the victims was hit in the leg and the other in the groin area. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.”
One neighborhood resident, who asked not to be identified, said she heard the shots at 3:18 p.m. and ran out of her house to see the two victims lying on the ground. She said one of the teen-agers tried repeatedly to stand up before collapsing to the ground.
“I saw them standing there a little while before, and it looked like they were just hanging out,” she said. “This is very shocking. And upsetting. It’s normally fairly quiet out here.”
The shootings occurred less than 100 feet from an elementary school and across the street from an intermediate school.
Witnesses said dozens of students from Irvine Intermediate School ran to the scene shortly after the shots were heard.
