Lockheed Martin Tapped for Satellite System: An Asian consortium has chosen Lockheed Martin Corp. over Los Angeles-based Hughes Electronics Corp. to negotiate a $700-million contract to provide a satellite mobile-telephone system covering most of Asia. Lockheed Martin, based in Bethesda, Md., is to build the satellite and launch it, as well as provide ground-control systems, a consortium official said. The three partners in the Asean Cellular System, or Aces, are Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara of Indonesia and Jasmine International of Thailand.
