BellSouth Plans Layoffs: The nation’s largest telephone holding company said it plans to let 9,000 to 11,000 employees go in the next two years in order to meet competition. The cuts will affect both management and non-management jobs. Atlanta-based BellSouth Telecommunications Inc. said the geographic breakdown of job reductions by state, city or community was not available. BellSouth said other reductions may occur as it continues to look for ways to streamline.
