US West Completes Swap: US West NewVector Group has traded its San Diego cellular operations and license for certain GTE Corp. cellular assets in Oregon, Washington, Minnesota and New Mexico. Under the agreement, US West will acquire from GTE 3.2 million potential customers in exchange for 100% of its San Diego cellular license and 2.6 million potential customers. Bellevue, Wash.-based US West initiated the swap with Stamford, Conn.-based GTE so that a planned merger of US West’s domestic cellular operations with Airtouch Communications Inc. would get federal approval.
