The Meaner Wiener
Reader Amy Griffin (Letters, June 18) may consider herself a Chicago hot dog expert, but my family and I, displaced Chicagoans, must protest her response to Max Jacobson’s Best Hot Dog choice (“Critics’ Night Off,” April 30).
Either Griffin has never been to Rubin’s Red Hots or she needs her taste buds checked. I challenge anyone to choose a Vienna dog over Rubin’s Chicago all-beef Sinai 48 kosher dog. I also question whether anyone of good taste would prefer greasy, stringy fries to Rubin’s fantastic version, made from custom-cut potatoes and cooked in healthy peanut oil.
Really, Amy, it’s worth your one-hour drive. And as for yearning for a Green River soda, I don’t believe that those are sold anymore, not even in Kansas.
