McCaw Denies Bid for Cable & Wireless: Craig McCaw, wireless phone billionaire, denied published reports in Britain’s Independent newspaper that he is preparing a bid for the British telecommunications company. Cable & Wireless provides telecommunications services to small and mid-sized companies. American depositary receipts for Cable & Wireless were up 50 cents to $20 in trading on the New York Stock Exchange. Separately, Cable & Wireless said Executive Chairman Lord David Young and Chief Executive James Ross will leave the company immediately, ending a two-day struggle by both men for control of the board.
