Keeping Her Fans in Line

Waiting almost two hours for Alanis Morissette to show at UC Irvine last week was no problem for the lucky 2,000 who held tickets to the sold-out concert. They passed the time in line kicking hacky sacks, getting to know the fans next to them or working on their Alanis worship.

Morissette, who received six Grammy nominations that same day, including an album of the year nod for “Jagged Little Pill,” usually attracts mostly young women to her concerts because her songs center on taking control of matters of the heart.

But in the small Crawford Hall, the audience was definitely mixed, with men singing along and returning tribal hand signals to the singer as much as the women.
