McDonald’s Proposes to Replace Restaurant
McDonald’s has asked for permission to bulldoze the company’s Wendy Drive restaurant and the Kentucky Fried Chicken next door, and build a new McDonald’s.
The new restaurant in Newbury Park would be 893 square feet smaller than its predecessor but would include a children’s play land, a five-table outdoor seating area and a drive-through lane.
Although city planners have recommended that the Thousand Oaks Planning Commission approve the project, they expressed concern about noise coming from the drive-through lane. The lane would be located behind the building, facing nearby homes.
The noise could be reduced, planners said, by constructing a 6-foot-high wall behind the property. Also, drive-through customers would place their orders face-to-face at a window instead of through a microphone.
The Planning Commission is scheduled to discuss the project Monday.
