Limited’s profit rose 16% as gains in some chains made up for its lagging women’s apparel stores.
Limited said it had net income of $33.1 million, or 12 cents a share, up from pro-forma net income of $28.7 million, or 10 cents, in the year-earlier quarter.
The results matched the average estimate of analysts.
The 1995 quarter included adjustments to reflect an initial public offering of Limited’s 17% interest in Intimate Brands, the sale of 60% of its credit card unit and the reduction of its shares outstanding after an 85-million-share buyback completed in March.
Columbus, Ohio-based Limited operates chains including Limited, Bath & Body Works, Express, Lane Bryant, Henri Bendel and Abercrombie & Fitch.
