The book discussed by Suzanne Muchnic, “On the Edge of America: California Modernist Art, 1900-1950,” is an important new book that reminds us that California has a significant place in the history of modern American art (Art Notes, Dec. 8).
However, I wish that her column had placed more emphasis on the exceptional exhibition named after the book at Jack Rutberg Fine Arts. It is a wonderful collection of works by 40 California artists.
