Alzheimer’s Linked to Strokes in Study
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Small, silent strokes may cause much of the memory loss and dementia that affect people with Alzheimer’s disease, suggesting for the first time that many symptoms of Alzheimer’s can be avoided by preventing strokes, new research indicates. The findings suggest that many people at risk of Alzheimer’s can delay the syndrome’s onset, and those already affected may slow its progression, by quitting smoking, keeping blood pressure low and perhaps taking a baby aspirin every day. The findings appear in the latest edition of the Journal of the American Medical Assn.
