Man, 35, Accidentally Shoots Himself in Leg
A 35-year-old Ventura man was in serious but stable condition Monday after a handgun accidentally went off as he slipped it into his waistband.
James Monroe had taken his gun with him when he went to stop a fight in front of his motel room on the 1600 block of East Thompson Boulevard, a Ventura police spokesman said.
Monroe put the gun into his waistband as he approached the scene of the fight and the gun went off, injuring him in the lower leg, the spokesman said.
He was taken to Ventura County Medical Center.
