Delivery Problems Continue, UPS Reports
United Parcel Service of America Inc. is still having trouble handling above-normal package delivery volume more than two weeks after resuming operations following a nationwide strike. “Our service performance is not yet what it should be,” the world’s largest parcel delivery company said in a statement. “We are taking all steps necessary to rectify the situation.” Atlanta-based UPS said its drivers delivered about 13 million packages Tuesday and again Wednesday. The company said it picked up about 11.8 million packages Wednesday and expected to pick up the same number Thursday. Nevertheless, pickups and deliveries Wednesday were higher than a week earlier, when the company made 11.6 million pickups and 11.4 million deliveries. UPS pickup volume rose to more than 16 million packages during the first week after the strike from a normal volume of 12 million packages per day.
