Sunbelt Nursery to Close 60-Store Chain
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Sunbelt Nursery Group Inc. will close its 60-store chain as part of a liquidation plan. A federal bankruptcy judge approved the retail nursery chain’s request to convert its Chapter 11 reorganization to a Chapter 7 liquidation last week.
The company still is negotiating with a buyer for 20 of its Texas stores, although if an agreement can’t be reached, the company plans to close those as well.
Sunbelt filed for bankruptcy on April 2 after losing market share to other lawn and garden stores as well as larger discount retailers such as Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
