I’m a real fan of all the specialty coffee drinks sold in coffee houses. But when I read the nutritional facts on some of these drinks, I think twice about ordering one. They’re usually pretty high in fat and calories.
Here’s a great-tasting fat-free coffee drink to help you celebrate the New Year. The coconut rum gives a different twist. And by using nonfat milk, you’ll have a frothy drink that will taste good and start your year off on the right foot.

Coco Java
Active Work and Total Preparation Time: 10 minutes
1 cup strong hot coffee
3 tablespoons sugar
1/4 cup nonfat milk
1/2 cup coconut rum
2 cups ice cubes
Freshly ground nutmeg
* Pour coffee and sugar into blender and pulse a few times to dissolve sugar. Add milk and coconut rum. Add ice cubes and blend until drink is frothy and ice cubes are crushed, 30 seconds to 1 minute. Pour into 2 glasses, spooning foam on top of drink. Top with ground nutmeg.
2 servings. Each serving: 216 calories; 21 mg sodium; 1 mg cholesterol; 0 fat; 21 grams carbohydrates; 1 gram protein; 0 fiber.
