Candiotti Back With Indians
Knuckleballer Tom Candiotti, who played for some bad Cleveland Indian teams from 1986-91 before being traded, was signed to a major league contract for the remainder of the season on Tuesday by the Indians.
The 41-year-old Candiotti, released by the Oakland Athletics on June 16 after posting a 3-5 record and 6.35 earned-run average, will initially be used out of the bullpen as a long reliever.
Candiotti pitched for the Dodgers from 1992-97.

Jim Evans, a 28-year American League veteran, will be the home plate umpire for All-Star game.
He will be joined by American League umpires Dale Ford (second base) and Mark Johnson (left field). National League umpires working the game are Terry Tata (first base), Angel Hernandez (third base) and Larry Vanover (right field).
Evans worked All-Star games in 1976 and 1989, Tata in 1978 and 1988, Ford in 1988 and Johnson in 1990. Hernandez and Vanover will be making their first All-Star appearances.
