Stung by a $3.6-million jury verdict favoring a Los Angeles Police Department employee who said she was wrongly fired, the City Council agreed Friday to seek a new trial and pursue settlement talks.

A June 21 federal jury decision favored Theresa Schell, a former fiscal services specialist with the Police Department. She said she was fired in retaliation for giving key testimony against the city in a costly police overtime case.
