Meat: ‘Just Say No’

* Bravo to Peter A. Brandt and Samuel L. Jacobs (“Meat-Eaters Should All Go Cold Turkey,” Commentary, March 18). We are subjecting sentient creatures by the billions to a life of torture followed by an agonizing death. How can we justify that? By saying we “like” meat?

Eating meat is ingesting violence. No wonder we are getting more violent every year. All this hullabaloo about the “dangers” to humans in cattle diseases that prompts us to incinerate millions of animals in medieval bonfires doesn’t touch upon the obvious: Just say no to meat! When will our awareness of our deeds and our conscience to evaluate them ethically finally snap into gear? And by the way, a plant diet is delicious and makes one feel soooo good!
