Reputed Drug Lord Faces Multiple Charges

Reputed drug lord Osiel Cardenas was charged with drug smuggling, organized crime, money laundering and illegal weapons possession over the weekend, Mexico’s Justice Department announced.
Cardenas is the alleged head of the powerful Gulf cartel, which has moved tons of cocaine and marijuana from northeastern Mexico into the United States. Cardenas was arrested this month in a shootout with soldiers in the Mexican border city of Matamoros, across from Brownsville, Texas.
