Fix Security Problems With Electronic Voting

Re “New Vote Machines Get a Dry (Ice) Run,” Oct. 24:

I have been educating myself about electronic voting. I believe there are grave problems associated with it, including the lack of an audit trail, a lack of testing, the possibility of erroneous or malicious code, code not open to public view, insider and outsider attacks on the system, outright fraud and more.

We should delay the introduction of these machines until we have dealt with the security problems. Furthermore, we should require that the testing be done by companies independent of the manufacturer.

Though there may be people who don’t want to change course and are concerned about undermining public confidence in elections, we are far better off disrupting the introduction of these machines than dealing afterward with the problems caused.
