2003 Domaine J.P. et J.F. Quenard Chignin Vin de Savoie

Wine trivia question: Name a white wine grape that’s grown only in the mountainous Savoie region of France.

Answer: Jacquerre.

The wine is Chignin, the name of a village near Lake Geneva in the foothills of the Alps. This one from J.P. and J.F. Quenard is 100% Jacquerre from 40-year-old vines, which may be why it has more grip and weight than many mountain wines.

Pale gold with a glint of green, it tastes like a juicy Granny Smith. This refreshing summery wine, something exotic, comes in at about $10. Not bad for a lovely little wine that’s made it all the way here from the Savoie, where most of it is usually drunk up by hikers and skiers.
