Dana Hollister’s Vision: A Success or Failure?
Thank you for your article on Dana Hollister (“Dana Hollister,” by Lynell George, April 29). We have known Dana for more than 20 years, and the young lady we originally thought was just a daydreamer turned out to be a true visionary.
Dana has taught us to see beauty in buildings we first thought should be torn down. She has acted on her beliefs. We need more Danas in Los Angeles to help preserve our history.

I don’t think I’m the only local resident whose response to George’s paean to developer Dana Hollister was “Gah, not again.” Not everyone here shares the Dana love, or wants Silver Lake remade in her image.
“I knew even then she had beautiful bones,” Hollister confides to George about the estate she now owns. Well, duh--it’s a Robert D. Farquhar-designed building!
One thing I will give Hollister is the Me-ism she has helped foster in our little burg. We should all remember how loud we would squawk if someone threatened our little piece of presciently purchased Silver Lake land.

So Dana Hollister says, “I’m less guided by my brain than my heart.” Where was that heart when she opted to lay that magnificent white tiger pelt on a table at the center of the room? Someone no doubt killed that beautiful creature so it could be laid out as a decoration. Shame!
