Thirty-sixth anniversaries typically don’t generate a whole lot of excitement, but don’t tell that to thousands of Elvis Presley fans who are descending on Memphis, Tenn., this week to mark the 36th year since the King died at age 42.

It’s Elvis Week in Memphis, and the city has geared up for one of the biggest celebrations of the year. The myriad activities are outlined at the official Elvis Week website, including the 2013 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist contest, a 40th anniversary screening at Memphis’ Orpheum Theatre of Presley’s “Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite” TV special, as well as the requisite tours of his Graceland mansion and the Sun Records studio where he made his first studio recordings.

Activities began Aug. 10 and continue through Aug. 17.

Meanwhile, Popmarket.com, Sony Music’s site for daily deals on recorded music, is turning things over all week to the King. Today, Monday, Elvis completists can get 20% off “The Complete Elvis Presley Masters” box set that came out in 2010 for a list price of $749.99, dropping the price to a cool $599.99. Each day will have a different Elvis set on sale.

RCA and Sony also have just released a new three-CD set of Presley’s recordings from July and December 1973 at Stax Records in Memphis -- “Elvis at Stax: Deluxe Edition” -- in time for this year’s Elvis Week events.

Turner Classic Movies offers a detail and trivia-rich overview of Presley’s career in films on its website.
