Art meets placemat: Louise Bourgeois’ textile designs

If you’re bored by the usual linen or Chilewich vinyl placemats, here’s something dramatic and fun to put on your table: a set of four cork board placemats decorated with the late French-American artist Louise Bourgeois’ eye-popping textile designs.

Do they remind you of spiderwebs? That’s apt, because Bourgeois is known for her huge cast bronze spider sculptures. I saw one once installed in the Tuileries garden in Paris where it dominated the landscape to wonderful effect.

Louise Bourgeois placemats from Artware Editions, set of four 8-1/2 by 11 inches, $60.
