Earthquake: 3.8 quake strikes near Willow Creek, California

A shallow magnitude 3.8 earthquake was reported Monday afternoon 28 miles from Willow Creek, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 3:16 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 21.7 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 43 miles from McKinleyville, Calif., 46 miles from Arcata, Calif., 47 miles from Bayside, Calif., and 213 miles from Sacramento.

In the last 10 days, there have been no earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
