Man arrested in fatal Long Beach shooting
A 20-year-old man suspected of shooting and killing a Long Beach resident over the weekend has been taken into custody.
Derome Harper was arrested early Sunday morning in the case that police say began with a dispute between the two men in the 1200 block of Phillips Street.
When Jamal Lindsey, 18, got into a car to leave the scene about 9:10 p.m. Saturday, Harper allegedly opened fire, “striking him multiple times in the upper torso,” according to the Long Beach Police Department.
A woman driving the car flagged down nearby officers, who were conducting an unrelated investigation. The officers rushed Lindsey to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officers returned to Phillips Street, where they took Harper into custody. He was booked on suspicion of murder and was being held at the Long Beach City Jail without bail.
