Man to be arraigned in attack on transgender woman in Hollywood
One of four suspects wanted in connection with an attack on a transgender woman in Hollywood this spring was scheduled to be in court Wednesday.
Nicol Shakhnazaryan, 21, was scheduled to be arraigned in Los Angeles County Superior Court on charges of battery with serious bodily injury, and assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, among others.
Shakhnazaryan was arrested in June in connection with the attack.
The attack on the 22-year-old woman, identified by authorities only as Vivian, took place on May 31 about 2:15 a.m. as she was walking on Hollywood Boulevard near Vine Street.
Video released by the Los Angeles Police Department shows four men involved in the incident. A second suspect has also been arrested in connection with the attack.
Vivian suffered a broken jaw, broken ribs and two fractured eye sockets, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Prosecutors say Shakhnazaryan could face up to eight years in state prison if convicted.
