Bloodied San Bernardino man arrested in deadly machete attack

A 46-year-old San Bernardino man was arrested Thursday, covered in blood, after he allegedly stabbed his sister-in-law to death with a machete.

The man’s wife and teenage son also suffered stab and slashing wounds to their chest, KTLA-TV reported.

The man, who was not immediately identified, surrendered without incident after police, responding to a domestic violence call, arrived at a home in the 2300 block of North Davidson Drive at about 6 p.m. There they found the man in the backyard covered in blood with the machete, investigators said.

The man’s 61-year-old sister-in-law was found stabbed in the driveway. She was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

Jesse Marquez, a neighbor, told KTLA he saw the son run outside to get help during the alleged attack.

“Some young man came knocking on my door covered in blood, saying his aunt’s dead, call 911,” Marquez said. “I come outside, and I see his dad with a machete, covered in blood, and his sister-in-law dead.”

Evidence recovered at the scene indicated that the man also tried to blow up the house, investigators said.

The wife and son were expected to survive.
