Body found in Huntington Beach park is suspect in double homicide

One of two bodies found Tuesday at a Huntington Beach park appears to be that of a man wanted in connection with a double arson murder near Sacramento and a carjacking in Merced, law enforcement authorities said.

The bodies of the two men were found by a passerby shortly before 1 p.m. amid trees and brush at Bartlett Park, the Huntington Beach Police Department said.

Police later informed detectives in Sacramento County that one of the bodies appears to be that of a 32-year-old man who allegedly killed two relatives Monday morning in the arson blaze, said Sgt. Jason Ramos of the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department.

Abraham Felmley is suspected of sparking the fire that killed two men, one in his 80s and the other in his 60s, authorities said.

The bodies of the victims were found about 11 a.m. after firefighters had knocked down the blaze. Both men were related to Felmley, according to Ramos.

Felmley fled in a truck stolen from the home. About four hours after the fire, Felmley allegedly carjacked a man who was fishing in Merced.

Detectives in Sacramento County pieced together evidence from the two crimes and put out an alert for Felmley.

“He was in the wind. We were looking for him,” Ramos told The Times. “We named him as a suspect.”

He said Felmley had relatives in Southern California. Felmley was believed to have received injuries from the arson fire, Ramos said, and investigators were waiting for the Orange County coroner’s office to determine a cause of death.

There were no immediate details on the other body.
