Brush fire burns at least 30 acres above Azusa

A brush fire burning in the San Gabriel Mountains above Azusa had burned at least 30 acres Monday evening, the U.S. Forest Service said.

The blaze was burning near homes by California 39, and clouds of smoke were visible for miles, according to footage broadcast on KTLA-TV Channel 5.

Water-dropping helicopters and at least one SuperScooper aircraft were attacking the flames from the air, according to the TV footage.

Fire officials said firefighters had been dispatched to protect homes on the northern flank of the blaze.
