Chinese nationals to be charged in marijuana growing bust
A group of alleged marijuana growers are expected to be charged Thursday morning, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
After a two-month operation, sheriff’s deputies on Tuesday served search warrants at four locations in Temple City, Valinda and Covina, where they seized more than 200 marijuana plants, cultivating equipment and two assault rifles.
Police arrested four people during the raid and three others Wednesday. They were: Guan Yi Mei, 29, of Los Angeles; Ting Mo, 22, of Temple City; Zhen Wei Huang, 29, of Rowland Heights; Man Lai Chon, 31, of Valinda; Hai Qian Zhang, 24, of Los Angeles; Le Sheng Zou, 20, of Los Angeles; and Rueng Jian Chen, 28, of Duarte.
With the exception of Chen, everyone arrested is a Chinese national who allegedly belongs to the Red Door Asian street gang, the sheriff’s department said. All were booked on suspicion of cultivating marijuana and are being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
The group is due in court Thursday.
One suspect is still at large.
